Open Call: Interdisciplinary SymposiaFaculty are invited to submit proposals for symposia to foster interdisciplinary research at the university. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation has initiated Symposia to Trigger Interdisciplinary Research, or STIR, to increase awareness of key research priorities, bring together faculty who have shared interests and facilitate the formation of interdisciplinary research teams. |

The Chancellor's FundThe Chancellor’s Fund now offers three funding opportunities aimed at fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, developing creativity and maturing intellectual property at the University of Arkansas. • | The Innovation and Collaboration Fund, now in its third year of funding, provides seed funding to support bold interdisciplinary projects that have not received prior funding. Proposals for the Innovation and Collaboration fund will be accepted until March 12. | • | The Commercialization Fund provides funding for technologies with strong commercial potential. Proposals for this fund will be accepting starting March 1. | • | The Gap Fund provides start-up support for faculty-led teams that have completed National I-Corps training. Grants are awarded on a rolling basis. | • | Learn more about the Chancellor's Fund at a town hall meeting March 8 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Multicultural Center in the Union, Room 403. Registration is required. | |

Ben RunkleRunkle’s research looks to develop new methods of irrigation that use less water and produce less methane, without sacrificing rice yields.The team will examine rice production in different environments around the state of Arkansas, and the results will be applicable to researchers and growers around the world. |

The Center for Children and YouthThe Center for Children and Youth provides teacher professional development, pre-service education, research and curriculum development and dissemination. The goal of the center is to expand professional development opportunities for students and teachers of Arkansas, especially serving those in disadvantaged situations. The center focuses on issues of intellectual growth, social development, literacy, the arts and techniques for addressing generational or regional poverty issues. |

Research Award HighlightsA team led by Kyle Quinn, assistant professor of biomedical engineering, was awarded $395,112 from the National Institutes of Health to develop quantitative biomarkers for mitochondrial disorders. Alan Mantooth, Distinguished Professor of electrical engineering, received $175,000 from Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies, LLC for a project entitled “RADAR 2021.” David Andrews, professor of computer science and computer engineering, received $105,000 from Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies, LLC for Advanced FPGA Development. |
